The Massachusetts Health Policy Commission (HPC), established in 2012, is an independent state agency charged with monitoring health care spending growth in Massachusetts and providing data-driven policy recommendations regarding health care delivery and payment system reform. The agency’s mission is to advance a more transparent, accountable, and innovative health care system through independent policy leadership and innovative investment programs. The HPC’s goal is better health and better care – at a lower cost – for all residents across the Commonwealth.

The HPC seeks an exceptional Executive Assistant to support the HPC’s Executive leadership team. This is a terrific opportunity to support the operations of a nationally recognized health care cost containment agency. The successful applicant will be interested in and gain extensive knowledge in health policy, public administration, external affairs, project management, and event planning while working under the HPC’s senior leadership.

Duties of this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide administrative support to the agency’s Executive department including schedule management, meeting coordination with internal staff and external stakeholders, daily schedule briefings and logistical coordination of speaking engagements
  • Correspond with and provide support to the HPC Board of Commissioners on behalf of HPC staff, serving as the point of contact for all scheduling and logistical matters
  • Compile meeting materials, organize agendas, and use discretion when handling confidential information for meetings
  • Prepare for internal meetings and agency announcements managed by the Executive department, including writing talking points, coordinating recurring all staff meetings, and drafting weekly staff newsletters
  • Maintain internal and external contact database and mailing lists for various programs
  • Assist the Chief of Staff department in planning for major public events and meetings
  • Special projects, as assigned

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree and at least one (1) year of relevant full-time or equivalent part-time, professional experience, especially in a senior-level administrative, legislative aid or constituent services role
  • Experience coordinating complex schedules with a strong attention to detail, judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to synthesize key takeaways from meetings
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and the ability to be flexible in prioritizing tasks under time pressure
  • Capable of managing up and across an organization
  • Demonstrated reliability and ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Zoom video conferencing. Experience utilizing Constant Contact and Tableau preferred
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, while participating as a team member
  • A strong interest in public service and desire to advance a more transparent, accountable, and equitable health care system for all Massachusetts residents

Experience working in a public department or agency will be strongly considered. Salary is commensurate with experience. The HPC may adjust title and responsibilities depending on the experience, education, and expertise of the individual selected. The HPC requires pre-employment reference checks and background screenings.

The HPC requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as detailed in the HPC’s COVD-19 Vaccination Policy. Individuals may request an exemption from the vaccine requirement for medical or religious reasons.

The primary location for this position is in Boston, Massachusetts. The HPC currently operates in a hybrid format with flexible scheduling options and employees working both remotely and in-person.  While this interview process will be conducted virtually, some in-person time is expected for onboarding and ongoing employment.
